Medical Wellness Association Advisory Board Members

The MWA Advisory Members will be a working group whose goal is to identify and develop new business and marketing opportunities, partners, programs, products, services, education, training and events for the Medical Wellness Association. The Association Advisory Board may identify regional, national and international experts to assist in the development of new business-marketing programs in its respective professional disciplines as Medical Wellness Advisor experts. Mike Alpert has been the President and the CEO of The award winning Claremont Club since 1997. Located in Claremont, California, The Claremont Club is a multi-use athletic, aquatic, tennis & social facility encompassing 19 acres, with a staff of 261 and servicing over 10,000 members and operating on an annual $12 million fiscal budget. During his time in Claremont he has created a dedicated team with a sense of ownership and accountability; developed a club culture of a passionate and value-based entity and created a focus on making a difference in people’s lives. Mike has served on the Northwest Athletic Club Association Board of Directors and is a Past President & Board Member of California Clubs of Distinction. He is also an Advisory Board Member of the Medical Wellness Association. Mike is a recipient of the Richard S. Kirkendall Award: one of only two non-educators to receive this award from the Claremont Unified School District, The REX Ben Franklin Award and The Medical Wellness Association Distinguished Community Service Award.

Because his passion is for the chronically injured and the chronically ill, Mike has been presenting “Exercise is Medicine” to universities and organizations internationally including Israel, Italy and Spain. He believes that now, more than ever, the healthcare industry and the fitness industry must join efforts in combating and preventing the progression of disease and the effects of injury. Mike is an Advisory Board member of the Medical Wellness Association. He is a past President and Board member of the California Clubs of Distinction and IHRSA's Outstanding Community Service award recipient. Mike’s honors include the Medical Wellness Association "Best of Medical Wellness" and the REX Ben Franklin Award. He has led Executive Roundtables in Spain and Italy and was selected by the American College of Sport Medicine to present Exercise is Medicine in Israel with the International European Congress.

Bio:

Amy Blansit, MA,  is the Founder and CEO of the American College of Wellness in Springfield, Missouri.  She is currently on the Kinesiology Department faculty and teaching at Missouri State University,  Amy was the Weight Management Coordinator for Mercy Health Systems.   In 2003, Amy founded the American College of Wellness and continues to successfully oversee it today.  Amy has been an adjunct instructor at Drury University and Missouri State University in the Exercise Science programs. She also has been on the teaching faculty for the Medical Wellness Association, Pinnacle Career Institute and University of Phoenix.  

Amy received her Master’s Degree from Adelphi University in Exercise Physiology.  She is a certified ACSM Clinical Exercise Specialist and ACSM Health Fitness Specialist  At the Missouri State University, she teaches courses in kinesiology, health and wellness promotion, obesity management and sport performance. Amy has been honored as a distinguished International Medical Wellness Association Diplomat, Advisor and inaugural MWA Faculty member. With experience in real estate development, she purchased the dilapidated Fairbanks Elementary School to create a hub for resources in underserved northwest Springfield.  As chairman of The Drew Lewis Foundation and Program Director of the Northwest Project for socioeconomic development, Amy is working to positively impact poverty and improve the Springfield community.

Loren Brink,

Loren Brinkhas demonstrated exceptional leadership and management skills over the course of his career. Early in his career, he spent five years at Abbott Northwestern Hospital where he developed and ran the Minneapolis Heart Institute Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, one of the first programs of its type in the country. The first Company he founded, Health Fitness Corporation, grew from a start up to become the largest and most respected manager of Corporate Health and Wellness Programs in the world. Mr. Brink has done an extensive amount of Business Management Consulting both in the U.S. and Asia. In 2011, he Founded Lumena SSL, Inc. and until recently, was the CEO of the Company. Dr. Michal Heger is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Clinical and Translational Research and Professor in the Department of Experimental Surgery, Academic Medical Center, University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam in the Netherlands.  He is also the Founder and CEO of Sickel and Hammer Services as well as the CEO and Co-Founder of Applive LTD.  Dr. Heger is an expert in clinical and translational research with the patient at the very centerfold, which is why he founded his own professional journal in that name Journal of Clinical and Translational Research; (JCTR)  The target audience is comprised of medical patients, clinicians and researchers, which ultimately represent consumers, individuals and families.  Dr. Heger completed his graduate studies at the University of Utrecht, Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Dr. Heger is currently the principal investigator at the Department of Experimental Surgery at the Academic Medical Center, University of Amsterdam. His research is predominantly focused on the following areas: (1) hepatic and renal ischemia/reperfusion injury; (2) hepatic steatosis; (3) cholestasis; (4) portal vein embolization and liver regeneration; (5) liver and kidney transplantation and preservation techniques; (6) chemotherapy and photodynamic therapy of solid cancers; (7) laser-assisted vascular welding. Steven E. Kramer, J.D, has over 34 years of experience working with a broad cross-section of industries and management teams in his practice areas of Employment and Labor, Corporate and Transactional and Sports Law. Mr. Kramer's experience within the Employment and Labor practice includes: Managing over 50 successful labor campaigns for employers in manufacturing, health care, trucking, construction and dairy; defeating union campaigns by the UAW, Steelworkers, Teamsters, Machinists, etc.; successfully negotiated over 75 labor contracts in the above industries, saving clients millions of dollars in achieving operational flexibility and efficiency; and negotiating wage concessions, increased health care, and frozen pensions in a difficult business environment. Steve has managed six successful decertification campaigns in the above industries and tried over 100 Labor Arbitration cases. He has represented employers in nearly every type of discrimination claim possible under state and federal law and handled more than 25 non-compete cases to enforce client employment contracts. Steve legal expertise has successfully guided numerous employers through complex Reductions in Force (RIF) cases and corporate reorganization. His extensive legal experience includes health care negotiation, health and medical benefits, retirement pensions and discrimination claims. Bob Stauble co-founded Healthtrax in 1979 and has held several executive positions including CDO, COO and CAO. He has also launched a number of new divisions of Healthtrax outside of the fitness center operations space. Bob started the HealthASSIST corporate wellness & population health management division of Healthtrax in1995 and continues to operate it as a boutique, “next generation” cost containment solution for self-funded, employer-sponsored health plans. HealthASSIST is about using technology and leading-edge health literacy content to leverage and scale personalized health coaching relationships that can evoke sustainable, measurable and meaningful behavioral changes.

Bob is currently responsible for all new business development at Healthtrax which includes acquiring new locations and creating new fitness, wellness & population health programs and content. This role includes developing and maintaining relationships with the Healthtrax Medical/Scientific Advisory Council, over a dozen hospital systems, a number of physician groups/PCMHs, ACOs and various health care and benefits consulting firm industry experts. The goal is to maintain innovation leadership at Healthtrax through best-practice sharing and continuous pilot programming. As a result of working alongside C-Suite executives and board members at leading health systems, including Johns Hopkins and Hartford Healthcare, Bob has gained valuable insights and enjoyed a ringside seat to the US health system’s battle to begin its transformation from volume-based, reactive care to value-based, proactive care. Bob has extensive experience in creating strategic channel partnership agreements and joint ventures with consultants, developers and vendors within the real estate, medical fitness, corporate wellness, patient centered medical neighborhood and population health management industries.

As a Healthtrax board member, he has also worked closely with investment banking firms in securing over $10 Million in private equity, senior debt and mezzanine financing. This includes assisting in authoring CIMs, developing pro forma growth models & business plans, management presentations to investors and the due diligence process. Bob has served for over 30 years as the senior benefits executive at Healthtrax and has worked with major carriers, brokers, consultants and TPAs in the design of the Healthtrax benefits plans and talent management systems. Healthtrax has sponsored a successful, consumer-driven, high-deductible plan with a Health Savings Account, for 10 years. Bob has served as co-chairman of the Connecticut Governor’s Committee on Physical Fitness and on the business advisory boards for Genomas, Rebel Interactive Marketing and the E-Circle Entrepreneurs Roundtable.
